Hard end of the DIK

Yes, you thought this day would never arrive. The end of DIK. It's so hard. heh. Hard to say goodbye that is...what did you THINK I meant? pfft. (you all have such dirty minds. i luv it!)

Welcome players and spectators to the final round of DIK Madness.
Below is a list of the women who selected six 'Desert Island Keeper' books to bring to our island's library almost two weeks ago. Since then, we've begun a 'Desert Island Keeper Hero Draft' for which we are taking turns in rounds to pick seven heroes to join our island adventure.

Since the order of play has been consistenly the same (with the list reversing itself each round), I decided that for the grande finale a little shake-up was in order. And so I fed the list of names into an online list randomizer which generates "mathematically random numbers based on noises recorded by a microphone in Ireland" to randomize the list. Noises recorded in Ireland? Huh. Well, all I know is that if you don't like your spot on the list, don't complain to me. Blame Ireland. Now with that bit of housekeeping taken care of, let's move on to the current standings...
Round 1 picks are in RED.
Round 2 picks are in PURPLE.
Round 3 picks are in BLUE.
Round 4 picks are in GREEN.
Round 5 picks are in ORANGE.
Round 6 picks are in AQUA MARINE.
Round 7 picks will be in MAROON (because we are after all "marooned" on a desert island. lol)

Step 1. Find your name. That is the order you choose in. (see above note on new order)

Step 2. When it's your turn, "Call" ONE hero in the comments. It can be anybody from all of literature (and apparently spin-off as-seen-on-TV books now count too), but you can't have somebody who is already picked! Who will you pick? Naida gets to start. Naida, leave your hero's name in the comments. Then LesleyW gets to go. And so on. After this round, everyone should have seven heros and our island of 160 men/women/vamps/demons/shifters/superheros/etcetera will be completely crowded.

Yes, trades are permitted. In fact, this is your last chance to swap. Someone else got a hero you just CAN'T live without? Pony up (har) and make them an offer while there is still time.

Don't worry about obsessively monitoring this thing. If you don't call your hero in 24 hours, 1 hour we'll skip you. LOL Just kidding. Maybe two hours. Or three. ;)

RULES:
• No picking out of order. Once the woman above you has chosen, it's your turn.
• Trades are permitted, but be clear about announcing the results in the comments or email so your host(s) don't have to play sleuth.
• If it's your turn and we don't hear from you for 24 hours a few hours, sorry, you're skipped. But you can email your host(s) ahead of time with your pick. Or comment as soon as you come back and your pick will be entered.
Email to: sulawesigirl4 at yahoo dot com or noseinabook at live dot com

• Gratuitous posting of hot Gerard Butler pics are always in good taste.

• Latecomers: SORRY, we wish everybody could play, but there has now been a moratorium placed on add-ons, due to the record-keeping nightmare this will soon has become.

Hawke is a very fine choice. I am hoping Nalini will one day write his story!

KT Grant said...

Ana, I think Hawke's story is going to be written after Mercy's which Nalini is writing now. Probably his will be published at the end of 2009 or 2010.
I am all for Kaleb! OMG what a sexy psy mo fo.

Kati said...

SIGH. As my three year old niece would say "I'm is happy now!"

I am very pleased with my hut. I've got Roarke getting me chilled win, and Jacob doing my toes and Max planning the bloody end for the many, many vamps on the island.

CJ, are we voting on who has the best hut next? Or is this it?

Kati said...

Heh. Chilled WINE, Roarke is getting me chilled WINE.

KT Grant said...

Rub it in MK, rub in your Roarke WIN!
And I shared my father and son dating story with you.
*goes back in her sob for more rum and wild sex*

So I have Sarah from Down Unda's pick. And let me just tell you what an EXCELLENT pick it is. I LOVE this dude!! Not that what I think matters. But she lurves him, too.

Taylor MacAllister, Dangerous Ground, by Josh Lanyon

Yay for Sarah!!!

Carolyn Crane said...

Hey! Who put Kirk in my hut?

Just kidding. Excellent pick, Sarah!

JenB said...

Good morning, everybody. *pours coffee for all*

Anybody have any fun plans for today?

Samantha Kane said...

Shannon C ~ Thanks for the great review! And "How to Prevent the French Pox After You Seduce a Rake" almost made me pee my pants I laughed so hard.

JenB ~ email me for delicious yaoi talk. Madelynne Ellis did a great blog on this at Lust Bites. Don't have the link right now, but it's easy to find. She is a big yaoi fan.

lisabea said...

Sam, that is a great yaoi post. I've got a link to the site...but jenb might already. she's usually 8 steps ahead of me.

And Shannon C is the shit.

::takes coffee and cinnamon bun from tray::

Carolyn Crane said...

MK: we can vote, I didn't really think that far ahead. Maybe rank the top three huts other than ours.

What is yaoi? Am I dense?

Christine said...

Hawke!!! OMG Fantastic choice!!!! I can't wait for his story... I love him.

*smacking my head against the wall that I didn't think of him earlier*

.... still trying to come up with my next pick.....

Tracy said...

mmmm Hawke! Seriously can't wait for his story. I'm thinking it's the girl from the Laurent clan. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I'm so stuck on my pick! Too many wonderful men to choose from!

Morning Ladies! Thanks for the coffee Jenb!

JenB said...

Samantha--Just emailed you. I definitely wanna see that discussion on yaoi!

LB--Pssshh. I am not 8 steps ahead of you (maybe 3...4?). You are THE Lisabea. I dare not compete. Although I did just post a pretty snotty review on my blog...

Ana said...

Tracy, I agree with you, I think Hawke's heroine will be Sienna (me thinks that's her name) - I can already see the sparks.

JenB said...

Too slow, ladies. I found the Lust Bites yaoi thingy. Yay for yaoi. Boiz r kewl.

Tracy said...

Is Sarai up? Hello?

Thanks Ana! I read so many books I have a hard time remembering all the secondary characters! It doesn't have anything to do with getting old. It doesn't!!!

Bridget Locke said...

Hmm...the choices just get more & more interesting. :)

So I see I'm coming up relatively soon, but not for awhile yet. Tracy can either give you my choice or you all can wait after 7 Pacific tonight. :)

Um...I'm tired. Definitely tired. Actually took sleeping pills last night because I haven't been sleeping well. Slept so hard last night that my brain is all fuzzy. Boo! :(

Tracy said...

I hate feeling like that Kaitlin! If your turn comes up do you really want me to speak up or do you want us to wait?

Kati said...

Has anyone else read Kresley Cole's June release? I'm just saying Cadeon Woede exceeded every single expectation I had. Every island needs a Rage Demon with erogenous horns.

Just sayin'

If we had 8 rounds, I'd go with Cade for sure.

Kristie (J) said...

Oh Sarai - come out, come out where ever you are.

Tracy said...

I haven't read it but really liked him in Bowen and Mari's story. What a hottie - and those horns? hello!

Ana said...

MaryKate! You read Dark Desires????? *hyper*
Oh man, oh man, tell us more, tell us more, please. That is one the books I most psyched about.

Sarai said...

Sorry, sorry, Migraine and all that. Stopping in between groaning. I pick Cam Rohan from Mine Til Midnight by Lisa Kleypas NOw I have 2 cats, 1 bi detective, 1 psychic God, 1 millionarie a breed warrior and a Gypsy life is good!
Back to bury my head under the covers. *sigh*

Tracy said...

So sorry you're feeling bad Sarai. Hope it gets better soon!

LesleyW said...

Catching up here.

Hawke - yep want his story. And love Kaleb.

Erogenous horns - I've got to catch up on that series. Only read the short story and A Hunger Like No Other so far.

Kati said...

Ana, I want just telling katiebabs that I think this is Cole's hottest book ever. Seriously, very, very hot. The tension between Cade and Holly is just stupendous. And it's a road romance book, which I just love.

And those horns...yeow.

Joanna Chambers said...

WOW! I've actually come along at the right time to announce my final pick!!!

I'm going with Sydnam Butler from Mary Balogh's Simply Love (CJ - I've gone off-list!)

Ok, I know he's only got one arm and one eye but he's a lovely bloke and he can paint the walls of the hut and keep all my other men from fighting one another.

Kati said...

Nice pick, Tumperkin! I came very close to picking Wulfric Bedwyn.

I'm going to have to a blog at some point about all the heroes I didn't get a chance to pick.

Ana said...

MaryKate, thanks. I can't wait to read this book. Le sigh. I love road romances too! And his horns are erogenous zones? *dies*

Shannon said...

Oh, sarai, good choice! He was on my list of possibilities. Also, Merripen. God, I can't wait for his book!

Go feel better. Migraines are made of evol.

I need to go have "a talk" with my principal. Events that went down today were not good. NOT GOOD! Afterwards I will be in my hut being comforted.

Tracy said...

Oh! I've got Kaitlin's (Bridgetlocke) pick!

Not surprisingly it's: Cadeon Woede from Dark Desires after Dusk by Kresley Cole!

Great choice Kaitlin!!

Christine you're up!

Kati said...

Very good choice, Kaitlin! Can I pop into your hut occasionally to ehem, touch Cade's horns??

Carolyn Crane said...

Hold on here, wasn't Dark Desires released today? How are you all reading it?

Lesley, I"m with you, I'm only on A Hunger. It's okay. I'm getting a bit fed up with the heroine. I've been skimming the end parts. But I know I'll go on with the series. if only to read about the erogenous horns.

Tumperkin: I'm so glad you could pick your own. And you went off list! I sort of like the sound of a one-armed one-eyed hero. Why?

Ana said...

CJ, I understand the frustration with the heroine from A Hunger but keep reading it, the series only get better!

I was just reading my favorite parts out of Wicked Deeds - I luuuuurv Bowen. So glad he is in my tent.

Ana said...

Dear Author just posted an amazing review of Dark desires, they gave it an A!

KT Grant said...

Cole #5 is calling to me!!
Cadeon... must have youuu...
But I have 6 TBR books before I read you. :(

Shannon C. said...

CJ - I've only read A Hunger Like No Other, too. Emma does come into her own eventually, though she worked for me because I imagine my reaction to having some random angry werewolf dude being all, "Argh, vampire! You suck! Let's have sex!" and then destroying furniture would probably be along the lines of "...WTF?" too.

Y'all are making me want to grab Wicked Deeds and start it, except I'm behind on my official review reading list and Sybil might spank me if I don't get to some of the stuff I'm supposed to be reading.

Oh, and Sam, I'm glad I could make you laugh. My work here is done.

And as for a one-armed one-eyed hero? Why is that strangely appealing? (Hint: The answer is not, "Because you are warped, Shannon C.") :D

Anonymous said...

Chiming in with nothing significant to say except great picks everyone! It's great to see all these different tastes of heroics! or herotica...is that a word?

I read Dark Desires at Dusk on Monday. I used my super sneaky detective skillz and scored one from behind the counter at the bookstore. heh. It was on a cart and already priced so I just slinked back there and grabbed it! Boy howdy was it ever good! Rage demons....mmmmmm

Christine said...

Okay, I totally love Kresley Cole's IAD series... I haven't even read Conrad or Cadeon's stories yet, but already know I'm soooo jealous of Ana and Bridget. OMG love those heroes. Love them.

But enough coveting of my friends' heroes. After much deliberation... and consulting with two friends over the last four men on my list... I have decided to claim:

Clay Bennett from Mine To Possess by Nalini Singh.

What's not to love about this extremely protective, possessive, and sensual cat? Another strong silent type... You just can't go wrong with a Changeling. Mmmm...

Ana said...

Yay! My turn.

Oh, the last pick ever. Just a difficult choice. I had my mind made up on a hero that would knock your socks off not because he is ultra hot (although he is) , but because his power would help me immensely on the island. I was going to pick Lord Morpheus, Dream of the Endless, aka The Sandman from Neil Gaiman's Graphic Novels and then I was going to get him to put y'all to sleep so i can get my way with your men. Muwahahaha.

BUT then Sula posted that amazing picture of Gerry Butler and I changed my mind.

Because between Greed and Lust, I of course, choose Lust and pick

King Leonidas, from the 300 Graphic Novels (and he looks exactly like Gerry Butler - the most handsome, hot real man ever)

Kristie (J) said...

Oops Sarai - didn't mean to yell. Migraines are a killer!!
So I guess it's Jen B's turn and then I'm up.

Sarai: Sorry to hear about migraine. *hug* Hope you feel better soon. Migraines are indeed made of much much evil (thinking its part of th DarkMind)

The HLO is furiously planning the rescue of heroes that have mysteriously disappeared from their storybook homes and the HLO Hero Shelter/Get-Away only to magically appear on the DIK island. Help has been recruited. Don't worry boys help is on the way. ^_~

JenB said...

I choose my very favorite Regency hero ever: Heath Boscastle from WEDDING NIGHT OF AN ENGLISH ROGUE by Jillian Hunter. He's funny, hot, ex-military, and he can please a lady like nobody's business. He's a Duke...or a Viscount...or some titled shiz like that. Oh, and in the book his heroine is a naughty non-virginal redhead (like moi).

I hate most historicals, so this dude is damn lucky to be on my island. He will serve me well.

JenB said...

Oh, and "herotica" is a word:
http://www.amazon.com/Herotica-Collection-Womens-Erotic-Fiction/dp/0940208113

Tracy said...

CJ - that book was a little annoying for me as well, but it gets better. And the next few - wonderful! Don't give up!

Clay! Christine - wonderful pick - but you know I love him!!!

Ana - King Leonidas - rock on. Nice choice!!!

Jenb is up!

Carolyn Crane said...

Kim: OMG! I can't believe you did that! That is so James Bond of you. I wanted to do that with the new Sookie - I was there and I was sure they had it somewhere.

Great picks everybody. Lots of interesting fellas.

Kristie (J) said...

OK - my turn.
Heh heh heh heh heh

I am getting a hut all my very own for this one.

He is being unveiled with my Avatar which I picked for JUST this occasion.

And it's none other than

John Thornton from Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South - played of course by *hand to forehead in mighty swoon* Richard Armitage

(sorry Nicholas - you were in the running all along - and it there were 8 you would have made it.

Carolyn Crane said...

I love your sense of drama! Unveiling a new avatar and a pick!

Kristie (J) said...

LOL - well - my sisters do call me a drama queen. And my son is defintely a drama king so he inherited it somewhere.

Bridget Locke said...

LOL, Kristie! I KNEW IT. I even said back when I chose Mr. Darcy that I didn't choose Mr. Thornton specifically for you. :D

Oh, the new Cole book? Hood of the car...it's all I'm going to say. :) I read it b/c B&N had it available last week. I DEVOURED it! *sigh*

So, now I've got 99% conservative, one gay man and a rage demon. Mrowr! :D

KT Grant said...

Hood of the car? Does that mean they have sex on the hood of the car?

I still don't have my sex slave picked yet.

Tracy said...

OMG - I'm just dying! I have like 6 men and I can't decide!!

Ok - I'm gonna bite the bullet and choose:

Dr. Henry Walton Jones, Jr. Do you know who he is?

Ana said...

Indiana JONES!!!!!!!!!!!
*thud*

Great pick!

I bought tickets for the movie today.....

Tracy said...

Yippeee You can get pony! Ok, not a pony - but an extra bottle of rum for your hut, Ana!

k- gotta go get my teeth cleaned - can hardly wait to see who KB picks!

Carolyn Crane said...

Ahem, Han Solo just told me he wants to fight Indiana Jones.

Tracy said...

That's get A pony. Geez my typing is going down hill fast.

Tracy said...

Bring it on!!!! Of course won't they interdimensional clash and melt or something! lol

Carolyn Crane said...

I can't wait to see who KB picks EITHER!!!!

KT Grant said...

Calling all fellow DIK ladies... Help a sister out. Which heroes are left that I should pick? Who is worthy of being in my sexin hut?

Anonymous said...

I just finished Miss Wonderful by Loretta Chase and I want to play my trade card.
*coughCJOmegacough*

I'm going pick Alistair Carsington instead of....someone. Maybe instead of Kieran. I know, I know, Kieran and Ciara. But his name is anglisized. And since I have Samuel, I don't really need another hero who likes babies. One is enough.

JenB - if the sharks hadn't already eaten you I'd throw you in again for hating historicals. ;)

lisabea said...

Jack Sparrow informs me that he'd like to dine with Indiana...perhaps talk of Gold and Treasure...hm....

Shannon said...

omg. Indy and Han Solo duking it out? That would be my childhood fantasy come to life. ::sigh:: heh. It took years for me to fingure out it was the same actor. I was a bit slow as a child.

Kristie- It is about damn time. CHEST!

Now if you want hot sex on the hood of a car, you need to go read some Tara Janzen. ooooh baby! Not just any car, a sooped up classic car. hot car, hot man. SEX!

Carolyn Crane said...

Oh, that indy and han solo is one sweaty fight I'd love to see. It's important, also, that our menz stay in good shape, so I think that would be a wholesome activity.

Ciara, did I get that right? you want to trade Drifter for Omega?

JenB said...

I already tooollld you...my demon roasted the sharks, my werewolf ate them, my gunslinger rescued me, and I tossed Jamie overboard instead. Sheesh, don't you people listen?? ;)

Historicals are booooring. History is so...over. Plus I can't keep up with all the titles and stuff. It's too much like school. I have a language degree, and I had to read historical literature in English AND Spanish. The historical part of my brain is fried.

Carolyn Crane said...

Oh, Jen! Say it ain't so! You have deeply hurt the feelings of the Dukes and Rakes and Earls of the island.

Bridget Locke said...

Jen, Jen, Jen. *sigh* Dunno what to do with you. LOL!

Indiana Jones? Right on!

I'm so sad it's over...except for KB's choice, but now what are we going to do with ourselves? *sigh*

sula said...

oh wow. lots and lots of good picks. Sorry for the delay. I went to the doc's office this afternoon and have been curled up on my couch with a heating pad trying to feel better.

I'm so psyched to read the next Cole book! Cade...mmm. Actually though, I really REALLY wanna read about his brother Rydstrom. Rage demons = hotness.

Kristie, I was *this* close to picking Richard...I mean John Thornton for my final pick. My boyfriend and I watched the movie on Friday night (yes, I got him to sit through the whole thing!) and I was reminded yet again of my lurve for Mr. Thornton. I will be a frequent visitor to your hut. ;)

So, katiebabs is the last one, huh? Better make it a good one, girl!

I have updated the blog with the most recent picks as well as some pics. heh.

Shaymless Aymless said...

Oooh! An Indy vs. Hans fight! I am so there. Hope it's in skimpy loin clothes and perhaps... jello? *sigh*

KT Grant said...

I have my pick!! After a long hard thought bending who should I pick...? I have him!!

Without further ado.....

SHERLOCK HOLMES!!!

Beat that! :D

sula said...

I love it! I read almost all of the original Holmes stories when I was about 14-15. Had such a lil' crush on that guy. And then there were those awesome Mary Russell books. The one kiss in book 2 was as romantic as many of the 'hawt' scenes I have read in steamier romances. Something about getting under the skin of a brainy smart guy...*sigh*

Great pick, kb!

Shannon said...

ooooh! Nice one Katie! I was SO not expecting that :)

Bridget Locke said...

Sherlock? Really? Are you sure you want him snooping around the huts? Just askin'. :D

Kati said...

Wow. And so it ends.

I raise a glass to Miss CJ, who is the mastermind of the madness.

CJ, I say what all of us already know, you, my friend, are a goddess.

*MK passes pomegranate margarita*

Kati said...

Thanks also, Sula for hosting the last round! Your hospitality has been great!

sula said...

hear hear! raise your glass to CJ! *g*

Don't we have to pick the best hero out of each hut? Imagine that loony fun?

Bridget Locke said...

Oh, that would be so hard! I like my heroes! :(

KB: Sherlock and not Moriarty! Oh, KB! But that is a great pick. I love it. He is invited to my lawman parties. Maybe those nights I'll send Michael over to you for comfort. Then again, Michael is a sort of lawman, isn't he?

This was SO much fun! MK and Sula, thanks for the toast, and thanks to Sula for hosting. I cant' believe how much fun this has been, and how many great people I have gotten to know, and great books and esp. heroes I will be getting to know.

I don't think I've heard from all the ladies who hosted DIK about what book they would like. Hold on . . . Kristie, Mary Kate, and Sula, you need to let me know.

Thanks one and all! This was wonderful. It was fun for me, but also very educational. I learned a lot about what I like in a hero, who my influences were, and what readers like. So it was like work, but really fun! Okay, my work is really fun. So extra fun? IDK, but I liked it. My inbox in going to go into withdrawal when it doesn't have hundreds of DIK messages a day, lol.

Just leaving a quick message out here on the palm tree so all you ladies see it when you crawl out of your huts... IF you ever crawl out of your huts (cuz why would you?)...

You are all bug-freakin' nutso and I've enjoyed watching all your DiKin' around these past days (weeks? months? hee). I think you even gave me MORE books that I need to read (uh... thanks?)

Party on, ladies... party on.

LOLOL Thanks Bev! You're welcome to party on our island any time you like. But look with your eyes not with your hands!!! ;)

Thanks for hosting this final round, sula! So sorry I didn't participate more... my kidlet has been home since Monday with strep throat, so I've been a bit otherwise occupied. :(

And to all my lovely DIK friends, its been a blast. You all have amazing taste in heroes and I look forward to reading about those who are new to me.

Cheers!

Sula thanks for hosting. the headache is just a dull ache and I am back at work. Lord what a couple of weeks it has been. *raises glass to all the ladies* I never thought playing with so many DIKs would be fun but you ladies proved me wrong!
I salute you all and I am already having withdrawls. Is that normal?
