Hard end of the DIK

Yes, you thought this day would never arrive. The end of DIK. It's so hard. heh. Hard to say goodbye that is...what did you THINK I meant? pfft. (you all have such dirty minds. i luv it!)

Welcome players and spectators to the final round of DIK Madness.
Below is a list of the women who selected six 'Desert Island Keeper' books to bring to our island's library almost two weeks ago. Since then, we've begun a 'Desert Island Keeper Hero Draft' for which we are taking turns in rounds to pick seven heroes to join our island adventure.

Since the order of play has been consistenly the same (with the list reversing itself each round), I decided that for the grande finale a little shake-up was in order. And so I fed the list of names into an online list randomizer which generates "mathematically random numbers based on noises recorded by a microphone in Ireland" to randomize the list. Noises recorded in Ireland? Huh. Well, all I know is that if you don't like your spot on the list, don't complain to me. Blame Ireland. Now with that bit of housekeeping taken care of, let's move on to the current standings...
Round 1 picks are in RED.
Round 2 picks are in PURPLE.
Round 3 picks are in BLUE.
Round 4 picks are in GREEN.
Round 5 picks are in ORANGE.
Round 6 picks are in AQUA MARINE.

Step 1. Find your name. That is the order you choose in. (see above note on new order)

Step 2. When it's your turn, "Call" ONE hero in the comments. It can be anybody from all of literature (and apparently spin-off as-seen-on-TV books now count too), but you can't have somebody who is already picked! Who will you pick? Naida gets to start. Naida, leave your hero's name in the comments. Then LesleyW gets to go. And so on. After this round, everyone should have seven heros and our island of 160 men/women/vamps/demons/shifters/superheros/etcetera will be completely crowded.

Yes, trades are permitted. In fact, this is your last chance to swap. Someone else got a hero you just CAN'T live without? Pony up (har) and make them an offer while there is still time.

Don't worry about obsessively monitoring this thing. If you don't call your hero in 24 hours, 1 hour we'll skip you. LOL Just kidding. Maybe two hours. Or three. ;)

RULES:
• No picking out of order. Once the woman above you has chosen, it's your turn.
• Trades are permitted, but be clear about announcing the results in the comments or email so your host(s) don't have to play sleuth.
• If it's your turn and we don't hear from you for 24 hours a few hours, sorry, you're skipped. But you can email your host(s) ahead of time with your pick. Or comment as soon as you come back and your pick will be entered.
Email to: sulawesigirl4 at yahoo dot com or noseinabook at live dot com

• Gratuitous posting of hot Gerard Butler pics are always in good taste.

• Latecomers: SORRY, we wish everybody could play, but there has now been a moratorium placed on add-ons, due to the record-keeping nightmare this will soon has become.

I'm not sure if my heart skips a beat over excitement or dread when I see that damned picture.

YAY MORE DIK

sula said...

heh. I know what you mean. I think I might just have to add another pic to my post...for viewing pleasure and all that stuff.

I can't decide who I want for my last pick!!! :( Prince Caspian is hawt (he was born a year before me so it isn't squicky), but after careful deliberation I decided he isn't complex enough for me. Can we start all over so that I can pick Adam Hauptman first? I finished Iron Bound! How unsatisfying to end right before the good stuff.

Shannon - any chance you wanna trade???

What on earth are we going to do when this is over?

lisabea said...

Well....I'm sure we'll think of some new time suck...but for the love of MIKE(ael) it had better be after graduation..phew.

Joanna Chambers said...

Hey! Checking in in the full knowledge that I'll be in bed by the time it's time for my pick (CJ holds my proxy)...

Tracy said...

Hawt pic! Extra yummy with whipped cream on top! mmmm!

Ok - how much does it suck that you put our names in the randomizer and I'm almost last again? Oh well since I am having fits over who to choose for my last DIK to enter my hut it's probably a good thing!

KT Grant said...

Am I first to pick or last?!?!
I have no clue who I want as my final DIK.
*still ponders how she will steal Michael away...*
BTW Colin posted again on Christine's blog on why he is not a fan of Drifter. Hee Hee. :D

Anonymous said...

Forget Gerard, here's the biggest hottie.

It wouldn't let me put the picture directly in the comments.

lisabea said...

I am delighted to not be 13th. Again.

Tracy said...

Since we've randomized things maybe we can randomize them more and make sure the girls abroad can pick before they hit the hay. Just a thought.

Tracy said...

Ethan!!!!!

Shannon said...

Yay! More DIK!

Gawd, that picture is hot. Just... damn.

ciara- Sorry, babe. My momma taught me to share my toys, not my boys. Adam is all mine! (Good god, that scene towards the end of Iron Kissed in Mercy's garage when Adam came in and his wolf took over. I think he defines the word Alpha.)

Shannon said...

oh, and cool randomizer thingy. nice way to mix things up a bit.

sula said...

well it wouldn't be random if I edited the order, now would it? the recorded sounds of ireland have spoken (kinda of like ye olde gods and goddesses).

There is no chance that this will be over before tomorrow, but at least we can get started. heh.

ciara, did you see the Prince Caspian movie this weekend? I saw previews a while back and he does look mighty pretty (if a bit on the young side.)

Anonymous said...

Sigh, at least I have Ethan to console me, and boy what a good job he does.
*fans self with book*

Sula - yup, i saw it friday. He's 26, so perfectly old enough for my 25-year-old self. I thought it was too violent for a PG rated movie. I don't understand why violence is fine to show kids, but sex is somehow evil. I'd much rather kids see sex as natural than violence.

Carolyn Crane said...

Sula, this is fantastic. And you revised this all so humorously, I was totally laughing out loud!
Okay! I know who I am picking!

Shannon said...

ciara- I am with you on that. I would much rather explain the birds and the bees to my children some day than try to explain why two guys are going to violent lengths to kill one another.

lisabea said...

Soooooo SUla. Did you email Nadia yet?

Ciara said...

Shannon - and not only is it violent, but in the Narnia movies the main characters are kids who are killing people, as if putting arrows in a soldier or lopping off someone's head wasn't a traumatic life-altering act. So maybe Lucy isn't killing anyone yet, but Edmund and Susan and Peter aren't that much older. We seem to be teaching kids that taking a human life is as trivial as swatting a fly. I liked the movie, but I don't agree at all with the PG rating. I wouldn't take a kid under the age of 11 or 12 to see it.

sula said...

CJ, I am happy to please. But I must admit to some trepidation as to your choice of a final hero. *mumbleomegamumble* ahem. btw, i totally missed that the Adrian you picked was from the Spymasters Lady. He is soooo intriguing. mmmm.

lb, errr, yes, i emailed her. (ok after you reminded me, but it got done didn't it?) my poor head is so muddled. lol.

ciara, I seem to remember from obsessive reading of the Narnia books as a child that the kids do indeed get involved in the battles. but of course reading about something and SEEING it on the big screen are totally different. In any event, I only netflix movies these days. Too cheap to pay for tickets to the theatre. heh.

Christine said...

Ahhh.... nothing like some DIK on a Sunday afternoon. Its been so long since that's happened. *sigh* Damn kids.

Anyway, I've seen the previews for Prince Caspian, too, and decided I was not taking my 9 yo to see it. My 13 yo and I will see it, though. We read the books together a few summers ago. :)

Kati said...

Sula and LB, I'm off to enjoy Prince Caspian tonight, so I emailed you my pick (plus one back-up, just in case).

Go ahead and pick right away if it gets to my turn, no need to wait, since I really will be away completely.

Thanks!

The Bookworm said...

i'm first!! *yay*
sorry for the hold up, just checked my email now.
for my final hottie I choose....

Ian from Stephenie Meyer's 'The Host'

http://thebookworm07.blogspot.com/

KT Grant said...

ooohhhh an extra new hero!! I have The Host waiting to be opened.

The Bookworm said...

yep Katie, he is a new hero :o) I loved reading The Host.

sula said...

woohoo! Naida has spoken. The first final pick has been revealed!

I don't know Ian but I love that name. hehe. :-)

Carolyn Crane said...

Naida, you are an early adapter! A very brand new hero. I'll have to check that book out!

Sula, don't you see I retracted that other pick. I repented! I will even share Adrian or even Han Solo as penance. Just let me know...

Bridget Locke said...

Hiya! So, it's the final DIK day. Why is DIK so much fun to type? LOL!

I got up at 4 after getting smacked with a HORRIFIC migraine. :( But, I'm here and feeling much better.

I'm round 14, huh? I'm in the middle now! Should I be happy about that? LOL!

Bridget Locke said...

And my hero still hasn't been chosen! Phew! I was getting worried there for a bit. :)

KT Grant said...

They saved the best for last!! MEEEE.....

Kristie (J) said...

I think my hero is pretty safe. At least he better be or Kristie won't be a happy islander!!

Ciara said...

Leeesssslleeey!

Should I assume, since it is 10:37 pm for you east coasters, that it won't be my turn till tomorrow morning?

Sarai said...

Sheesh why am I 12??? *sigh* I don't have a clue who I want on the island now... I might just pick an everyday hero or something plain like that. *sigh* my weekend is over and I have to work tomorrow that sucks really bad... Anywho I will stop back in tommorrow good night ladies and enjoy your DIK.

JenB said...

Wow, I'm waaaay down on the list this time. I hope my man is safe!

I'm reading BITTEN by Kelley Armstrong at the moment, and I'm thinkin' I might need to steal Clay from Sarah. He's looking mighty tasty right about now. *licks lips*

Shannon C. said...

I am just leaving this comment so I can watch the final round. That is all.

And now I want to reread the Narnia books.

Ciara said...

Shannon - You're in Lawrence, Kansas? That's such a cute town! We drove through there on our road trip to see where my hubby's grandparents grew up and had dinner at the brewery. :)

I don't remember the Narnia books very well, though I think I read them at least twice. I was completely traumatized at the end of the Last Battle to find that everyone was dead. I was unaware, at the time, that the series was C.S. Lewis' attempt to explain Christianity to children. Yay we're dead! Traumatized. Completely. But I agree, I want to reread them now too.

Shannon C. said...

Yep. I love Lawrence. Took me quite a while to realize the rest of my state is less cool. And the brewery is an awesome place to eat, though my favorite Lawrence restaurant is a fairly newish place called Local Burger, which provides organic fast food. I don't eat there often, but it's good.

And I think the last Narnia book I finished was The Silver Chair. I never read past that, and I'm not sure I ever really want to. Rocks fall; everyone dies? Not my favorite kind of ending, no matter what kind of allegory it is.

Shaymless Aymless said...

The HLO pleads that DIK remember that heroes are people too! Surely there is enough love to go around! And to help with the... uh... over-crowding, there is plenty of space over at the HLO Get-Away Island for all ^_^ (and we share).

I love the Chronicles of Narnia (though have to agree with ciara about the trauma of the Last Battle). I've had my box set since '81. Last year (or maybe it was the year before) Costco had the books on CD, they really great. I love listening to them at bedtime, it like my parents reading me a bedtime story only better! Anyone see the movie? Was it good? Can't find anyone to go with me so I'm gonna catch a matinee sometime this week.

Tracy said...

Ian!! I really liked Ian a lot. Ok, not at first but he totally grew on me as the book went on. Good pick Naida!

Jenb - Clay is hawwwwt! I just love him. Jeremy's pretty steamin too, if I must say!

Ok - we'll it's already 9pm but I'm just now off to Border now that the kids are in bed - woohoo...I love me time! :)
Have a nice night in the huts girls!

Bridget Locke said...

Tracy-Yay, you got your Borders fix! :) I might go to B&N tomorrow, but I'm not sure if there's anything out at the moment that I haven't already bought. :)

I'm wondering if I should email Sula w/ my choices or make y'all wait when it comes to my turn. :) I'm thinking with the way it's going tho I won't have to worry. :)

I just sneezed & it hurt. I hate it when that happens. Now I'm watching P&P. I love that movie. *sigh*

Tracy said...

Yes I got my fix! *sigh* I love book shopping!

LesleyW said...

Sorry guys,

I thought we were having the weekend off again.

Hmmmm, who to choose now my Keir has been nabbed...

I choose Lucivar from the Dark Jewels books by Anne Bishop. I think he's still free

Ana said...

Woohoo, we are up again?
Yay.

Anonymous said...

After much deliberation I chose Dr. Samuel Cornick, Son of the Marrok, werewolf, healer, celtic musician, and Washingtonian. He can fiddle for me while I sing celtic folksongs, and then we can drink hot cocoa and "talk" about how much we want babies. ;) It's a match made in heaven!

Anonymous said...

From Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson series: Mood Called, Blood Bound, and Iron Kissed.

All of which I have or will review this week on ciaralira.

Sarah said...

Jenb, there will be nooo stealing of the Clay. However, I would be amenable to a trade on the odd evening with Angel. Would have to be ok with Clay though, he is a feisty bit of goods!!

PS I love the Kelley Armstrong series!

sula said...

goooood morning DIKers. lol.

Some intriguing picks there. I keep adding things to my TBR list as I see who everyone is choosing. So much DIK, so little time...

hey lisabea, wake up girl! *pokes*

Ana said...

wow, that pic of Gerry Buttler as Attila - yummy! That was when I first learnt of the awesomeness that the man is.

lisabea said...

Captain Jack Sparrow

Read em and weep, ladies, cuz he's mine...and a roll of dental floss may be in order here.

KT Grant said...

Gerry!!! Sex on a stick he is!

sula said...

omg, Jack Sparrow!!! How sexy and appropriate to have a pirate on the island. mmmm. And I bet he fits in just fine in your manlovin' hut. ;-) He will bring the mascara.

Glad everyone is appreciating the Gerry candy. He was soooo yummy in that Attila miniseries (even tho the film itself sucked bigtime).

ok, so it's my turn to pick and I'm going to join the tv/movie-to-books club just so that I can have one of my crushes join us on the island. He's dashing and sexy, charming and cheeky. He likes the menz just as much as the ladies. Oh that man, his grin makes my heart melt just a little. Captain Jack Harkness from BBC's Torchwood series.

And just because I can never have enough excuses to post this smoking-hot kissing scene, I give you Captain Jack and Captain Jack. *sigh*

lisabea said...

We have bitchin huts, Sulagirl. I have this vision of Adrien stalking Jack Sparrow around...cuz we just HAVE to move past Jake Riordan.. See me FLIPPING him OFF from the window of the cabana.

HOT JACK/JACK...

Tracy said...

Wow great picks this morning!

Lesley - Lucivar - love him!
LB - Jack Sparrow - I'm speechless and I bow to you!

I need to go buy more books - I haven't read Patricia Briggs...and obviously need to see this Jack Harness. So much to do, so little time!

Gotta get the kids to school see you all later

Shannon said...

Yay! Samuel and Adam can finally be friends. They each have their own woman on the island. No more vying for the same heroine.

I would totally pick Charles next, but I just don't need the mess that two fighting Alpha werewolves would cause. Although, Samuel would probably be happy to have his brother around :)

Sarai said...

Shannon I'm from KC which isn't all that bad *g* didn't know we had a fellow Kansasan here!

Lord who to pick I'm down to 3...

Ana said...

Captain Jack Hakness? Oh wow! Great pick. That man is delicious!

lisabea said...

This is weird that I'm done!

Where's Sam?

JenB said...

Let's count the number of Captain Jacks we have on the island now. 12? 84? I've lost count.

That Jack on Jack kiss was so damn hot. I've only watched the first disc of season 1, and I seriously need to catch up.

Sarah, I would be willing to trade Angel for Clay one night a week.

sula said...

It's a plethora of Jacks!!! mmmm...Jack. heh. We can have Jack on Jack kissing every day. lol.

Where IS Sam? My vote is that she is busy writing the next uber-delish novel in which Ian and Derek make time for playdates on the island, whilst sula and lb look on in approval. heh. yeah, i'm naughty, what can I say?

lunchtime!

Carolyn Crane said...

Hey! Great picks everybody. I love the name Jack, too.

Tracy said...

Ok - my comment disappeared...I knew it was feeling like Twilight Zone Monday but still! lol

Ok - what I said was...I looked up Captain Jack Harkness and oh my - he IS a hottie! Very nice pick!

lisabea said...

OK I'm popping over to kiss and tell girls to see if MS. KANE is around. I fear no...I emailed her last night and this morning and one thing about sam is, she answers. So RL must be interfering. We still luvs her though.

So.How's by you?

Bridget Locke said...

Yay! My choice is still available. Thank goodness. I still have to wait for a bit, but I will survive..I hope. :)

Great choices so far, ladies. Yum, yum, yum. :)

Carolyn Crane said...

So are TV shows ruled in now? Does this mean my girlhood love Jim Rockford is now available?

Carolyn Crane said...

He was my girlhood dangerous fella crush. Him and Jimmy Osmand.

Sarai said...

OMG I have 4 choices now b/c My friend who has been lurking like no other suggested one I forgot. I want to trade Rejar for someone else on my new list... Can I? Anyone? I can wait until after everyone's picked?

Tracy said...

I think after this is all done we'll all be blogging about the heroes we love but didn't have room for. hey - the island's big enough - why not?

Carolyn Crane said...

How about this: you can tell me the other picks, and if I like them, I will take them for myself and you can live vicariously through me.

sula said...

CJ, it is looking like the more the merrier on this island. heh. But who are these people you are talking about? Am I showing my age? hmmm.

sarai, I think (but am not sure) that you can swap out one of your previous choices. After all, ms. CJ did such a thing with her Omega choice, did she not? *stares at CJ* lol. Now you have me curious as to who could be so compelling a choice as to need to trade for them. :)

Carolyn Crane said...

The HLO would probably like to know about these other heroes, too.

Carolyn Crane said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Sarai said...

Okay well I'm trading Rejar for Gage Travis from Sugar Daddy by Lisa Kleypas... If no one objects and yes I am willing beyond willing to share him if that gets him on the island!

Carolyn Crane said...

Didn't somebody want Rejar?

Sarai said...

IDK if they do they can have him I prefer Gage...

Kati said...

Excellent choice, sarai. I love Gage. Loved him in Sugar Daddy, but fell even harder for him in Blue Eyed Devil.

If Lisa doesn't write a Happily Ever After for Jack Travis, there's just no justice in the world.

Sarai said...

Have no fear ladies I have allowed Rejar to go back to his SO and the ladies of HLO will take him so that leaves me Gage. See how it all works out. And the world can spin normal again *g*

Kati said...

I'm actually glad that this is taking a bit longer because I'm waffling now on my pick. I've got a list of three that I'm going between. Now that it's the last round, I'm kind of stuck.

SIGH. So many heroes, so little time.

Carolyn Crane said...

Sarai, Rejar just said he was going back to preserve his manly honor. The last I saw, though, he was wild with grief for your rejection of him, threatening to throw himself into the shark infested waters!

JenB said...

I've spent some time in the shark infested waters myself(*coughIhateJamiecough*). It ain't so bad.

Sarai said...

CJ no, no, no you have it all wrong You see he is scared b/c the other 2 more manly kitties threatened him and he wants to cry/howl about it and well I'm not having it. SO bye-bye he will be fine I'm sure the lovely HLO will take care of him and stroke his fur.
Life is good once again besides he coughed up a hairball on my pillow last night very gross ;p

Tracy said...

OMG CJ - Jim Rockford! I used to have a crush on him too when I was younger - ok! A long freakin time ago! lol

Sarai - I think someone was jealous of you have Rejar so they may just snap him up.

Bridget Locke said...

Mmmm...Gage. :) What a hottie!

Shaymless Aymless said...

The HLO arrives to take Rejar "home". We will give him sanctuary and time to get over his grief at the rejection. Please come by and visit him ^_^

sula said...

okey dokey. the change has been made. it is official. Rejar is OFF the island. Wave bye-bye Rejar and hello Gage.

Sarai said...

Aymless: I send much appreciation your assistance with this delicate matter and I will stop by any time. Until then I leave him in capable hands and hope his heroine still wants him.

Sarai said...

Bye Rejar it was fun!!! Thanks Sula!

lisabea said...

CJ you should totally pick Steve Austen A man barely alive...we can rebuild him...we have the technology...yes: the 6 million dollar man.

Carolyn Crane said...

He would probably get along great with Branden Kel-Paten, our cyborg with a heart.

KT Grant said...

CJ: Kel is very drool worthy. But nothing compares to Sully.

Shannon said...

SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMM!!!! Where are you? Please come out and play!

I think I know who I am picking, but now I am second guessing myself. I love him, but there is not wow factor to picking this hero. Also, I have idea who else I would choose. I feel lame. So very lame.

lisabea said...

Oh NOES. Is she away at the beach? Did she email me her pick and I lost it???

The Bookworm said...

stopping in to check out some of the heroes...capt jack sparrow!! why didnt I think of that?! lol

theres some fine picks on this island.

Sarai said...

I feel lost where's Sam did she hit another goose?

JenB said...

I say we skip her. She is an author. If all her picks are taken, she can just write a new one. :P

Sarai said...

Excellent point Jenb

As for everyone else I am leaving work for date night so no Sarai on the board tonight. CJ however, has my pick. Good day and night talk to ya all tomorrow. For those of you bored I just posted why I picked who I picked...
Yeah come visit if your bored *sigh* I need a life.

lisabea said...

We can't skip Sam! It's only been..er..is it 24 hours?

Kati said...

Sula made her pick at 9:13 this morning, so no, it hasn't been 24 hours yet. We did skip over someone else at some point during the madness, but it doesn't make a difference to me, I'm only four behind Sam anyway. I defer to she who owns the joint.

Seems to me it's Sula's call. Or, you know, CJ? Maybe you want to step in here?

lisabea said...

please hold whilst I stalk Sam...again...

lisabea said...

And I am commenter 100

PONY

KT Grant said...

lisabea said...

::Adrien stares at sunscreen bottle and shrugs shoulders::

Lube is good.

Hey I'm pretty sure Sam went to the beach. Oh NO.

Carolyn Crane said...

Okay, hello! I'm momentarily back. Here is my thought: Samantha tends to have pretty exotic picks anyway. And she feels bad when she holds things up. I say, let's skip her, but if she had somebody in mind that somebody later takes, let's just say, as a matter of island girl honor, we give that man over to her and take another.

What do you think?

Shit! That means I pick soon. I still can't make up my mind!!!

lisabea said...

Sounds good. CJ I know that Darth Vadar is still available. He was pretty hot when he was young, too.

Carolyn Crane said...

Hey, MK, I was just looking at people's picks, and I didn't say this on your blog, but it was funny that you don't like those Kresley Cole titles, because you know, I actually think they are SO clever, and I sort of chuckled when I read that you hate them.

Carolyn Crane said...

Darth? there is already enough heavy breathing in my hut.

KT Grant said...

I have no clue who I want so may be by the time it gets to me, Darth Vader will be available?

Or I could just pick lame Phury.

sula said...

sorry, sorry. was getting home from work and makin' dinner. mm.

ok, so i concur. we will go ahead and skip sam (sorry sam!) and continue on. the show must go on!

thea, you r up. :)

oh and lisabea, you win a pony. again.

KT Grant said...

CJ: lots of spanking sounds also from what I hear.

Anonymous said...

ahhhh! My entire thumb typed message was deleated. Damn cell phones.
*throws iPhone to sharks where jen's bloody remains wash the sea red*

Kati said...

Well, different strokes for different folks, CJ. I just don't understand why we have to have a 16 word title of a romance novel. For Christ sake, it's got a half naked man on the cover. Can we not figure it out??

All that being said, I LOVED the hell out of both of the new books. LOVED them!

sula said...

awww, ciara, that sux. and i even turned off word verification for this. :(

Carolyn Crane said...

KB: I was thinking about Phury, too. I know people think he's a whiner, but I sort of like him. Right now, for me, it's between Phury, James Bond, and Captain James Tiberius Kirk. I think those are all sort of lame picks.

Ciara: You won't need that stupid iphone on the island anyway!

MK: Maybe authors are running out of titles that have the word dark in them.

lisabea said...

I'm having a REALLY hard time naming my WIP..

could ya'll help me out?

Carolyn Crane said...

Okay, I'm going with Captain Kirk. He is my retro pick.

I will think about your title while I eat dinner.

KT Grant said...

CJ: Offer? *bats puppy dog eyes*

Anonymous said...

LOL. Cj - so true. The word dark should be banned from future titles to save my sanity. Why don't publishers think a unique name will sell better than a dark name? Isn't it against their interest to have ten books with the same title?

lisabea said...

Kristie(J) I heart you.

lisabea said...

Dark and Dangerous Pumpet Trumpet of Love!

Carolyn Crane said...

Topalong Cassidy and the Bundance kid.

Carolyn Crane said...

KB, I am out of the trading game. I am going to stay where I am with my fabulous men, adding Kirk, who all ladeeeez in the universe finds irresistable.

KT Grant said...

Can I come over to your hut for dinner and oogle Michael in his apron?

lisabea said...

That has got to be a gay porn title. Got to be.

If not. Hey, CJ, I have this great idea for a gay western...

Carolyn Crane said...

I was just sitting here thinking, why did I write that? I am in such a weird mood.

KB, you are welcome to come and enjoy Michael. Bring along Sully-he and Kirk and Han Solo I think will Have tons of fun comparing notes. Nate came come, too. They can start a space guy club at MY hut!

Title suggestions:

Cock Your Weapon
Is that a Gun in Your Pocket?
Arrested by You
Arrested by Love
Arrested in Love
Resisting Arrest
Seize Him

I'm sort of being silly here, but maybe it will spark an idea for something you like. I do like the play on words with "arrest" in the title with a cop as one of the lovers.

i.e., arrest = seize by legal authority
and arrest = attract

lisabea said...

I do like Cock Your Weapon. I mean it has nothing to do with the story..but it's somehow appealing. Huh.

sula said...

I do like Cock Your Weapon.

*snort* you would! hehehehe.

honestly tho, i will be no help. i used to write and edit for my college newspaper and could spend hours, no DAYS trying to come up with a clever title for a story I had just written. *sigh* sooo hard.

Carolyn Crane said...

I actually really like resisting arrest.

Hey, I'm leaving! I will be back at 10 or so. Should I hand over my pick and Sarai's? Oh, my pick is Kirk, and If thea or Shannon take him, then I'll take 007, or Phury. Oh, hell, surprise me! If somebody thinks of something better...

I'm going to guess Sarai's turn won't come up until 10 pm at this rate.

lisabea said...

Sooooooo did anyone email Thea??

JenB said...

Yes, you do. It's the only e-book I own that lives on the handheld reader permanently. I re-read all the juicy bits on a regular basis. *slurp*

Samantha Kane said...

Okay, do not shun me. You should pity me. I have been without internet since Saturday. SATURDAY! They were about to fit me for the funny jacket and cart me away. And all I kept thinking was, OMG I know I'm holding up DIK. Hee, hee, hee. Yeah, it was funny, but I was seriously upset! No, lb, if I had gone to the beach I would have emailed you my pick.

Like everyone else I had a hard time narrowing it down. And it doesn't help that I just read two fantabulous books with some new all-time favorite heroes in them. But I'm going with one of my esoteric choices instead, lol.

Jack Reacher ~ Lee Child's Jack Reacher series.

Jack is a former MP in the U.S. Army who basically wanders around the world with nothing but the clothes on his back championing the underdog. This is an action/suspense/thriller series. So Jack's hand-to-hand combat, sharpshooter and tech skills come in handy. He's also brilliant, has a photographic memory, is a stone-cold killing vigilante, and is so sweet and tender to his lady loves. He's six feet and a gajillion inches tall, blonde, built, in other words, my type. So, if you haven't read these books, read them. In the last one I read Jack's girlfriend is an older FBI agent. Lee Child usually gives Jack a kick-ass heroine in each book. Anyway, Jack has an inner monologue on the benefits of older women in bed. That's a great scene.

Whew! I'm done. I'm done with my DIK's. What do I do now?!

KT Grant said...

Never heard of the Lee Child's series. He sounds hot! What is with the name of Jack that makes these men so sexy and tortured? drool...

sula said...

yayyy Sam!!! So sorry to hear of your misfortune. By that I mean the lack of internet access. You poor thing. heh.

So is it fate or coincidence that three hero picks in a row are named Jack? lb, sam, and I clearly have great taste in men. ;-)

lisabea said...

Well Sam, there is life after Dik. Right???

we will concoct some other form of mind suck BUT i need at least a WEEK off.

Samantha Kane said...

OMG ~ those titles were hilarious! All I could think of was that great Barry Manilow song (Shut. Up.) Weekend in New England. I love that song. I'd read a book called that. But That's Not Clam Chowder? Maybe not so much. ;-P

Captain Kirk?! I love William Shatner. He is the absolute best. I love that we managed to get some t.v./film heroes on the island through judicious use of spin off pop fiction titles. This island rocks. CJ, I wish Jim Rockford had a spin off novel series, too. :-( I lust after James Garner. Even though he's like a hundred years old now.

katie(babs) ~ lol, I didn't even think about the fact that I picked a Jack, too! Yep, it must be the name.

lisabea said...

there are some most excellent Jack Sparrow coloring and sticker books to be had. Those are books.

Christine said...

Hi Samantha! Sorry about your 'net woes. I hate when that happens. Although I do get a lot more housework done those days.... ;)

Nice introduction to Jack Reacher. He sounds HOT.

JenB said...

Oh, no internet = major suckage.

My husband's laptop broke a few weeks ago and he was without it for 3 whole weeks. He nearly died. (Really. I was this.close to killing him with my bare hands.)

Shaymless Aymless said...

OMG ROTFLMAO You guys are killing me with those titles! I think I've actually seen some of them on the shelves.

You can have Captains Picard and Kirk. I'm taking Commander Will Riker. He uber hot!

Life after DIK is the HLO! ^_^

Kristie (J) said...

No internet since Saturday?? Youch!!! I would be in a straight jackett!!

Shannon said...

OMG! I'm so sorry ladies. I was teaching all day and then my boy was unexpectedly in town, so we had a lit of a date after work. (He's living over 2 hours away so I have to grab my time with him when I can!)

Anyhoo, my last pick. I wasn't sure about this. I was waffling back and forth over whether or not to pick him. He is not uber exciting in comparison to some of your picks, but I just love him. He is strong, supportive, quiet, protective, and while he may not be the most gorgeous man, his heart is beautiful. So I will go with one last Suzanne Brockmann hero, Stan Wolchonok from Over the Edge.

lisabea said...

Hey Shannon! Stan is good people. I love your hut, btw. Love it.

sula said...

woohoo! Shannon iz here and haz spoken. I haven't read that book, but I trust in your good judgement. And if lb says he's good people, then he's good people. *g*

Tracy said...

Oh Sam you poor thing! No internet would kill me.

Thea and Sam - great picks. Love Fight Club!

Aymless - I'm with you - I'd take Riker!

I'm having heart palps about my last pick. Can't pick just 1 more - arg!

Tracy said...

Shannon - I ordered the first 3 books you told me to from the library. I follow orders well! :)

Bridget Locke said...

Aw, Stan is a great choice. And you're right, he does have a great heart. :)

I'm so close to my choice and he's still not taken. Phew! :D

Carolyn Crane said...

Hey! Wow, I missed some amazing titles! That's not clam chowder? SNORT.

Aymless? Tracky? Riker, OMG, you guys. RIKER? He is but a poor girl's Captain Kirk.

Love that Fight Club. This is a long round!

Carolyn Crane said...

I meant Tracy, not Tracky.

Shaymless Aymless said...

CJ: Well that's okay. This poor girl will take her Riker! ^_^ I just luuuurve his voice. *sighs dreamily* The only voice better is Vin Diesel. That man can read the dictionary or phonebook to me and I'd be happy.

Bridget Locke said...

Best voice? That'd be Richard Armitage Hands Down. Can we say melted chocolate with a hint of yummy Brit? Le sigh. The man could be butt ugly & make my girly parts tingle just by speaking. Thankfully, he's hot and he still makes my girly parts tingle. LOL!

Tracy said...

Poor man's Cptn. Kirk?? *snort* you're funny -oh, and delusional! lol Ok - maybe not. I think I might have had a crush on good ole JTK once upon a decade.

Oh - and LB - I too love Korben Dallas - love that movie. Mult-ee-pass. Gotta love it!

Shannon C. said...

I meant to be back here hours ago but the Internets crapped out on me, so I'm only now checking back in with comments from the peanut gallery.

Re: Paranormal titles waaaaaaaaaay upthread: I don't mind the "Dark" so much, although it does make the books somewhat interchangeable for me if I haven't read them, but the title trend I really hate are the Regency self-help books with titles like, "How to Seduce a Rake" and "A Rake's Guide to Seduction" etc. I'm waiting for a book called "How to Prevent the French Pox After You Seduce a Rake", but maybe that won't go over so well?

Re: LB's titles: "That's Not Clam Chowder" is still my favorite so far since clam chowder was all I could think of. My only contribution would be "Please Cum in Boston". *ducks*

Sam: I haven't read the books you mentioned either, but they sound kind of fun. And I'm finding the presence of all the Jacks highly entertaining. Now all you need is Repairman Jack from the books by F. Paul Wilson to make the Jack brigade complete.

Shannon: (I love your name, BTW. Is it not awesome?) I like your last pick, too. And I tend to like the nice guy beta types who you'd want to be friends with, which is why, if I'd been allowed to play, my hut probably would end up resembling a coffee shop or something more than a harem.

sula said...

Hey! Wow, I missed some amazing titles!

You also missed that it was your turn, CJ!!!! *cracks whip*

Let's have it, girl. Make your choice!

sula said...

MaryKate emailed me with her choice, so as soon as CJ wakes up (*poke poke nudge*) we'll be off and running again. lol.
